Alvin and the Chipmunks have been delighting audiences around the world - for nearly 50 years, in various incarnations. Alvin and the Chipmunks is based on the characters created by Ross Bagdasarian in 1958, when he recorded a song with the voices sped up sounding like Chipmunks. That song became a hit and spawned a number of successful albums, especially involving a set of Christmas songs as well as an animated TV series in the 1960’s and 1980’s. Alvin and the Chipmunks started out as a series of novelty records in 1958, which become so popular The Alvin Show was launched in 1961. The reruns proved to be popular though and a whole new series titled Alvin and the Chipmunks was launched to try out the competiton of Saturday morning line ups.
